The Clark County Indians continue to play winning baseball late in the season. Last week, Clark County picked up three wins against quality opponents, and let one game slip out of their fingers.
Clark County vs. Canton
On Monday, April 22, Clark County hosted the always-tough Canton Tigers. The Indians fell behind early, but Drew Holsted changed the momentum with a solo homer in the bottom of the first. The Indians flipped the game on its head in the third, scoring five runs on three hits to take a 6-3 lead. From there, they never looked back, pounding in six more runs in the fifth on their way to a 15-9 win.
Tristen Pitford got the win for the Indians, surrendering four hits and three runs in four innings. Ronan Anderson threw in relief for the Indians. At the plate, Clark County tallied 12 hits, with two each for Chayse Webster, Pitford, Lucus Eddlemn and Drew Holsted.
Clark County At QND
On Tuesday, the Indians found themselves across the river facing Quincy Notre Dame, another perennially tough team. Conner Shatley struck out seven QND batters, while only walking four, and shut out the opposition in the 4-0 win.
The Indians put two runs on the board in the third. Webster doubled to lead off, and Gracyn Holsted grounded out, sending Webster to third. Drew Holsted reached on a fielder’s choice, and Matt Miller grounded out, sending D. Holsted to second. A Pitford double scored two runs.
Clark County added runs in the fifth and sixth for the win.
Clark County At Hamilton
On Wednesday, the Indians headed back to Illinois, this time to face the Titans of Hamilton.
Five second-inning singles set the stage for the Indians. Pitford led off with a single, followed by another from Eddleman. Koy Nixon popped out, but Corrick Hunziker singled Pitford home. Caleb Nelson singled, a Webster hit a two-run line drive single to put the Indians up 3-0.
Hamilton narrowed the lead, but Clark County added a pair of runs in fourth, and put the game out of reach with a six-run sixth inning, on their way to 10-4 win.
Nixon picked up the win for the Indians, throwing five inning while allowing only six hits.
Clark County vs.
Mendon Unity
For the third time in a week, the Clark County Indians faced an Illinois foe, this time at home on Thursday night.
The Indians were celebrating senior night, with eight seniors- Garrett Billings, Caleb Nelson, Drew Holsted, Koy Nixon, Thomas Church, Lucus Eddleman, Tristen Pitford and Matt Miller-being recognized.
The game started strong for Clark County, as the Indians put six runs on the board. Nelson got on base after being hit by a pitch, and took second on a bunt single by Billings. Holsted singled, scoring two runs. Miller hit a fly ball and reach base on an error, allowing Holsted to score. Pitford popped out, and Eddleman singled, bringing home courtesy runner Elijah Miller. Nixon singled, and Church hit a fly ball to score two runs, and Clark County led 6-0.
Unfortunately for the Indians, that was all the offense they would have for the game. The Mustangs got single runs in the second and third, and tied the game with a four-run sixth inning. Unity took the lead in the top of the seventh, and took the 7-6 win.
