MOKANE, Mo. — May 17, 2025 — The road to Jefferson City is paved with perseverance, and Clark County athletes proved they’re more than ready for the journey. At Saturday’s MSHSAA Class 2 Sectional 2 meet at South Callaway High School, seven Clark County athletes secured their spots at the state championships by finishing in the top four of their events — a day highlighted by a thrilling relay victory and dominant distance performances.
The spotlight shone brightest on the boys 4×800-meter relay team of Austin Day, Quintin Roach, Kai Binsbacher, and Mason McDaniel, who delivered a commanding performance to take 1st place in 8:34.71. Their chemistry and pacing never wavered, earning them a decisive win and momentum heading into state.
For Mason McDaniel, the day was a showcase of his elite endurance. In addition to anchoring the victorious relay team, McDaniel qualified individually in three distance events: 2nd in the 1600 meters (4:38.98), 2nd in the 3200 meters (10:39.79), and 4th in the 800 meters (2:07.61). His consistency across all three races highlighted his status as one of the most versatile runners in Class 2.
In the field events, Ava McKay dominated the pole vault, clearing 2.99m to take 1st place and punch her ticket to state. Meanwhile, Brennan Fuller soared to 2nd place in the long jump (6.23m), using a late-round leap to seal his spot among Missouri’s best.
Rounding out the list of state qualifiers was Avery Biggerstaff, whose 4th-place finish in the discus (42.75m) capped off a hard-fought competition and earned him a coveted state berth.
