The Clark County Lady Indians closed out their 2025 softball season with a 10-15 record, showing grit and progress through a determined run in the Class 2 District 5 tournament. A 5-3 win over Monroe City in the opening round highlighted the team’s resilience, before a hard-fought semifinal loss to top-seeded Paris ended their postseason campaign.
District Opener:
Clark County 5,
Monroe City 3
In their final win of the season, it was the bottom of the order that came up big. Ericka McDowell, Maggie Wheeler, and Hayden West combined for six of Clark County’s 11 hits, scoring four runs and driving in two. Wheeler led the team with a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate, while McDowell added a game-tying double in the third and two RBIs.
Clark County shook off an early 2-0 deficit after a defensive error in the first inning. McDowell’s double tied the game in the third, and a go-ahead single from Amellia Fox in the fifth gave the Lady Indians a lead they wouldn’t give back.
Grace Parker was strong in the circle, going the distance with 10 strikeouts, six hits allowed, and three runs surrendered — only one earned.
Clark County also got multi-hit performances from Palmer and West, while a double play in the field helped preserve the lead late in the game.
Semifinal:
Paris 10, Clark County 1
Clark County’s postseason run came to an end one game later in a 10-1 loss to a sharp Paris team. Early errors led to a three-run first inning for Paris, which quickly grew into an 8-1 lead by the third.
Despite the scoreline, the Lady Indians continued to battle. Hayden West finished 2-for-3 with the team’s only RBI, and Chloe Shatley added two hits of her own. As a team, Clark County collected seven hits against a Paris defense that played a clean game with no errors and a double play.
In the circle, Parker started and allowed six hits and eight runs — only one of them earned — over 2.2 innings. Emma Pitford provided solid relief, allowing just two runs over 3.1 innings with five strikeouts and no walks.
Season Reflection
The Lady Indians end their season with signs of growth across the board. The comeback win over Monroe City underscored the team’s resilience, and strong contributions came from throughout the lineup in the final weeks. With returning talent and valuable postseason experience gained, Clark County heads into the offseason with momentum and promise for 2026.
