MICHAEL DOUGLAS HUSTON

On December 18, 2022, Michael Douglas Huston walked through the gates of Heaven to

Join his many family members gone before him. Mike was born October 4, 1947 in

Chester, OK, to Frank L and Eunice ( Rife) Huston. He joined a family of three sisters, Judith,

Janet, and Rosemary and a brother, Leslie. They eventually moved to Okay, OK, where brother, Patrick was born two years later. By the time Michael was ready to start school, the family was living in Kahoka MO. where another sister, Rachael, joined the family.

Mike was a graduate of Kahoka High School with the class of 1965. He joined the US Marine Corps just a few days after his graduation. During his four-year enlistment, the Marines sent him overseas to Viet Nam, Okinawa, returning to California, South Carolina and finally to Kansas City, MO where he attained the rank of Sergeant E-5. He was assigned to Recruiting Duty there where he met the love of his life, Penny Broyles. They married three weeks after his discharge from the Marines in 1969

They moved to Oklahoma City for a short time, then to Kansas City, KS, where their son David Michael was born in 1971. They moved along to Mike’s hometown of Kahoka, and from there to Burlington IA where daughter, Jennifer Sue, was born in 1974. He enlisted in the Navy Reserve serving four years in the Local Reserve Unit as 2nd Class Petty Officer (Yeoman). Received his Associate Degree from SE Community College in Burlington and from there to Ames IA where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He accepted a position as Engineer with Oklahoma Natural Gas Company in Tulsa.

His work at Oklahoma Natural Gas Co, later ONEOK Inc , was very important to him. He became a Professional Engineer, which allowed him to sign his designs and paperwork he prepared. He developed designs for pipeline transportation of gas and other liquids ONEOK processed in Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, Illinois, Iowa and Mexico. He mentored trainees and was a member of several national engineering organizations. He retired from ONEOK June 30, 2016. His trainees spoke highly of Mike. One trainee commented, “ I stood on the shoulders of a giant.”

Mike is survived by his wife, Penny, of 53 years, son, David, daughter-in-law, Victoria, grandson, Luke, daughter, Jenny, son-in-law, Brian, grandson, Caleb. Also survived by sisters, Janet (Bill) Ramsey, Rosemary (Ralph) Dorrell, brother Patrick Huston, all of Kahoka and sister, Rachael (Greg) Cook, of Montrose, IA. He was proceeded in death by his parents, brother Leslie Huston and Sister, Judith Householder.

Memorial services were held in the Beaver Street Baptist Church, Jenks,OK where Mike was a faithful dedicated member and Deacon for many years. He was laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery with military rites.
