Dean Edward Hess

  Dean Edward Hess, 82, of Kahoka, MO died Monday, June 12, 2023 at his home.

     He was born November 1, 1940 in Kahoka, MO the son of Edward F. and Mildred L. Crandal Hess.  Dean graduated from Kahoka High School. 

     On October 28, 1961 Dean was united in marriage to Kay Ellison at the Shrine of St. Patrick Church.  She survives.

     Other survivors include three daughters, Dena Hess of North Liberty, IA, Diane Brueggeman (Brian) of St. Louis, MO and Darla Smith (Brian) of Nora Springs, IA, one son, David Hess of Kahoka, MO, nine grandchildren, Jenna Smith of Nora Springs, IA, Katie Brueggeman (Ryan Moore) of Kahoka, MO, Tim Smith of Nora Springs, IA, Drenda Hess (Luke Herring) of Kahoka, MO, Erin Smith of Nora Springs, IA, Maddie Brueggeman of St. Louis, MO, Dereck Hess, Delana Hess, and Drake Hess all of Kahoka, MO.  He is also survived by one sister, Norma Bonello (Jim) of Florissant, MO.

     He was preceded in death by his parents.

     Dean had been employed as Rural Letter Carrier for the United States Post Office for over 30 years and farmed his family farm ground for most of his life.  Dean and Kay raised cows and sheep.   They were hosts for the Clark County kindergarten field trips for many years.

     He was instrumental in getting the first show barn for the 4-H and FFA members at the Clark County Fair.  He was a long-time project leader in 4-H.

     Dean was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and trapshooting.  He enjoyed woodworking and built many items for his grandchildren. He loved sports and was an avid Cardinals Baseball fan.  Dean was a faithful fan of all his grandchildren’s school and sporting events. 

     A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka.  Burial will be in Kahoka Cemetery in Kahoka, MO. 

     Visitation will be held after 1 p.m. Thursday with the family meeting with friends from

5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

     Memorials may be made to the Clark County Junior Livestock Committee.
