Laneta Eileen Gares, 93 of Monroe City, Missouri passed away Thursday, August 31, 2023 at the Monroe City Manor Care Center, Monroe City, Missouri. Laneta was born April 20, 1930 the daughter of Peter Frederick Blum and Gladys G. Mayfield. She was a graduate of Kahoka High School Class 1948. She married her husband of over 68 years Hilbert Dean Gares on April 23, 1949. Laneta worked as a Corporate Secretary for Diemakers Inc. for over 25 years.
Being dedicated to God and being active in the church while spreading Gods word was very important to her. Teaching Sunday school or singing in the choir Laneta could be heard or seen every Sunday as she was a Member of the United Methodist Church for over 64 years. The Gares family was even recognized as the 1962 Methodist Family of the Year. Laneta was also recognized for being a member of the Monroe City Chapter H, P.E.O. for over 50 years. In the little free time that she had, Laneta would quilt for her family and friends making things from the heart that would last a life time. She was an avid supporter of the Monroe City Panthers and St. Louis Cardinals which was a big part of her life, she cared enough to not only watch the games but followed along by keeping her own stats. Laneta had accomplished many things in her life and helped many people, some through the power of her faith and some through being a good supportive friend but her biggest accomplishment was her family.
She is survived by one son Alan Gares (Vickie) of Hartsburg, Missouri; One daughter Joyce Adams of Monroe City, Missouri ; one daughter in-law Diane Kendrick (Bob) of Monroe City, Missouri ; one brother Wayne Blum (Dixie) of Kahoka, Missouri ; one sister Eloise Vibert of Suwanee, Georgia ; ten grandchildren Jeff Gares (Emily); Kip Kendrick (Sarah); Shayla Roop (Bill); Mark Gares (Mara); Derrick Adams (Kendra); Chris Gares (Veronica); Meghan Kendrick (Tyler Hunter); Ashley Hays (Will); Tyler Adams (Kyley); Corey Benke (Michelle); twenty two great grandchildren Madelynn, Meredith, Sophie, Sylvie and Samuel Gares; Abram Kendrick; Dylan, Blake and Dawson Roop; Cadence and Cora Adams; Lucia, Landry and Daphne Gares; Bailey, Daxton and Lola Hays; Waylon and Macy Adams; Lily, Benson, and Henry Benke. Also survived by Numerous Nieces and Nephews.
Proceeded in death by her parents, husband and three sons; twins David and Dennis Gares and Mark Gares; one brother Frederick Blum; one sister in-law Gwyn Blum; one brother in-law Donald Vibert; one great grandson Carter Lynn Adams and one great granddaughter Marcella Gares.
Funeral Services will be held 10:00am Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at the United Methodist Church in Monroe City, Missouri. A Visitation will be held from 5pm-7pm Monday September 4, 2023 at Garner Funeral Home in Monroe City, Missouri.
Pallbearers will be Laneta’s grandsons Jeff Gares, Derrick Adams, Kip Kendrick, Chris Gares, Mark Gares and Tyler Adams. Honorary pallbearers will be Laneta’s grand daughters Shayla Adams Roop, Ashley Adams Hays, and Meghan Kendrick.
Donatons in lieu of flowers can be made to the Monroe City United Methodist Church or the Monroe County Missouri Cancer Supporters.
