Andrew (Andy) J O’Day, 90, of Wayland, MO, passed away peacefully at 10:35 am on Friday, January 5, 2024, at Aspire in Donnellson, Iowa surrounded by his family. Andrew was born on July 3, 1933, in Kahoka, MO, to Andrew H. and Diamond T. (Gutting) O’Day. He was first married to Mary (Sapp) O’Day and to this union 3 children were born Charles, Connie and Judith. He later married Margaret (Chewning) O’Day on January 26, 1969, and she preceded him death February 21, 1992, and to this union one child was born Sean O’Day.
Andy graduated from Revere High School. He was baptized and a member of the First Baptist Church in Wayland, MO. Andy was an outdoor man, he loved to deer and turkey hunt and if family was back, he would invite them to come along and hunt with him. He always put in a large garden so he could, can and freeze his produce for the winter. Andy was honored when he was able to go on the Honor Flight and his sponsor was his nephew Paul O’Day, he enjoyed everything about that trip and the friendships he made. Andy loved his grandchildren and would share lots of childhood stories with them.
Andy is survived by one son: Charles O’Day of Hannibal, MO, two daughters: Connie Campbell of Wayland, MO, Judith O’Day of Warrensburg, MO, six Grandchildren: Kailey, Tyler, Brooke, Lauren, Megan, Jacob. nine great grandchildren, one sister: Mary Mertz, special nephew Paul O’Day, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son: Sean O’Day, 3 brothers: Donald O’Day, Joseph O’Day, Wilbert O’Day, and a sister Della Arnold.
Graveside Services for Andrew J O’Day will be held Thursday January 11, 2024 at 1:00 at Kahoka Cemetery, Kahoka, MO with full military rites. Pastor Dan Deatrick will officiate. Visitation will be held at the Wilson Triplett funeral Home on Thursday, January 11, from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm. Memorials contribution in memory of Andrew O’Day are suggested to the Kahoka Cemetery or to the Kahoka Senior Center.

OF MILITARY SERVICE
The members of the United States Army, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars hereby acknowledge that comrade-in-arms Andrew Junior “Andy” O’Day served our country for one year, ten months, and twenty-five days in the United States Army.
He served as a Field Wire Chief, United States Army Signal Corps, during the Korean War. He was stationed for one year, and fifteen days with the United States Army Europe in Germany, attaining the rank of Corporal (E-4).
.He was awarded and authorized to wear the following decorations:
Army Good Conduct Medal Army of Occupation Medal – Germany
National Defense Service Medal
He inducted 11 June 1953, received an honorable discharge 5 May 1955 and returned to Burlington, Des Moines County, Iowa.
He continued to serve as a reservist in the United States Army Reserves.
The caissons have been muffled and the flag lowered for our comrade-in-arms, Corporal O’Day, who joined the staff of the supreme commander 5 January 2024. At his final post we wish him fair skies and smooth pathways.
