Charlotte Louise Rylander

Charlotte Louise Rylander, age 84, of Quincy, died Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at 9:30 am in Blessing Hospital.

Charlotte was born November 30, 1939, in Kirksville, Missouri, the daughter of Hubert and Hazel Williams Huston.  She married Carl Rylander in November of 1960, in Memphis, MO. He survives.

Charlotte was a 1957 graduate of Memphis Missouri High School and went on to attain a degree from Blessing School of Nursing. She worked at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield and for a short time in the office of Dr. Schue, also in Pittsfield. As her career progressed, Charlotte found herself working at St. Mary Hospital in Quincy, where she would eventually become head nurse at Newman Behavioral Health Center within the hospital. She retained this position through the relocation of all services to Blessing Hospital. It was during this time she attained a Bachelors Degree in Nursing from Quincy College. She remained at Blessing until her retirement.

Charlotte was an active member and volunteer at Vermont Street United Methodist Church. She enjoyed joining friends for lunch and sometimes dinner. Charlotte was a dedicated animal lover, especially for dogs. In her spare time, she could often be found working in her yard, tending her flowers, and working around her home. Charlotte’s greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors in addition to her husband, Carl, include: two children, Kim (Bill) Veihl of Quincy, and Steve (Gina) Rylander of Pittsfield, IL; five grandchildren, Erin (Chris) Verbeck of Georgia, Kate (Cody) Cook of Dallas, TX, Abby Lagemann of Dallas, TX, and Carter and Cooper Veihl, both of Quincy; three great grandchildren, Cal Verbeck, and Ellis and Jack Cook; her nieces and nephews and their families (Michigan Family); and of course, her beloved dog, Ike.
