BILLIE JEAN PAGEL BARNES-WHEELER
Billie Jean Pagel Barnes-Wheeler, age 71 of Phoenix, Arizona passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2025, with her husband Jim by her side. She was born on May 5, 1953 to William & Martha (Mariani) Pagel in Iowa City, Iowa. She attended Clark County R-I High School, she graduated from Lamson Jr College in 1992 with an Associate Degree in Paralegal.
Billie worked for Pioneer Sand & Gravel in Chandler, Arizona prior to her retirement. She then worked as a Credit Analyst for Oldcastle in Phoenix until her health prevented her from working. Her family was her pride and joy. She cherished her grandchildren. Billie always sent the most heartfelt and beautiful cards.
She was an avid bowler and attended several Women’s National Bowling Tournaments. She was an avid sports fan, she loved her Green Bay Packers, Phoenix Suns and Diamondbacks. Billie and Jim enjoyed going to the Casinos, visiting family and each other’s company.
Billie is survived by her loving husband – James Wheeler of Phoenix, AZ, children Michael Laffoon of Keokuk, Jenny Kay of Hamilton. Sisters Judy (Gene Hamner) Payton of Kahoka, Diane (PJ) Mack of Poynette, WI, brother Bert (Rhonda) Pagel of Keokuk, brother-in-law John Elliott of Louisville, KY, 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Bill and Martha, grandparents – Cecil and Georgiana McCabe, sister -Georgie Ullrich, nephew – Danny Ball, nieces – Lacy Ball, Felicity and Taylor Ball.
Private inurnment will be held at a later date.
