The Miss Clark County Scholarship Pageant will shine the spotlight on local talent and community service on Saturday, November 8, at 6:30 p.m. in the Edna Seyb Auditorium at the Clark County Middle School. Admission to the event is $5.00.
Young ladies will be competing for several titles this year, including Miss Lewis and Clark, Miss Clark County’s Teen, and Miss Lewis and Clark’s Teen. These titles are open to young women ages 14 to 28. Each contestant must either be a full-time student in Missouri, a Missouri resident, or employed full-time in Missouri.
According to Co-Director Dr. Heather Webster, the competition will include an interview, on-stage question, evening gown portion, talent portion, and fitness portion.
“With the interview, the girls go in and sit down with the judges, and the judges will ask them questions,” Dr. Webster said. “The questions can be based on anything, but a lot of the time it is based on the girls’ Community Service Initiative.”
Each contestant chooses a Community Service Initiative (CSI) that reflects a cause she is passionate about.
“A lot of the questions go toward their CSI and how they would implement that statewide if they were to win and get to Miss Missouri,” Webster explained.
“The CSIs are really important; they keep the girls connected to the communities around them. Having Community Service Initiatives and being out in the community, showing what you can do, is a very big part of what the pageant is all about,” she added.
Scholarships will be awarded to each title winner, along with a local talent scholarship.
“The Clark County resident that scores the highest in talent will receive a $1,000 scholarship,” Webster said. “We usually give out $500 scholarships to the Miss winner. The teen titles do vary from $300 to $400.”
The winners of each title will advance to compete at the Miss Missouri competition in June in Mexico, Missouri.
Dr. Webster expressed her appreciation for the community’s ongoing support of the local scholarship program.
“The community is amazing,” she said. “Not only do they attend and show up for us, but a lot of the businesses donate in town, and that is how we are able to give the scholarships that we give.”
Young women interested in joining the competition can find registration forms on the Miss Clark County, Miss Northeast, and Miss Lewis & Clark Organization Facebook page. For more information, email [email protected].
In addition to the pageant, the Miss Clark County Organization will also host a Princess Weekend for girls in kindergarten through age 12. The event will take place Friday and Saturday, November 7 and 8, at the Clark County Middle School.
On Friday, November 7, participants will meet after school until 6:00 p.m. for a fun evening that includes crafts, snacks, learning a dance routine, practicing their evening gown walk, and meeting the current titleholders.
On Saturday, November 8, during the Miss Clark County Pageant, the princess participants will perform their dance routine and evening gown walk on stage, receive a crown and sash, and have the opportunity to meet Miss Missouri and Miss Missouri’s Teen.
The cost to participate is $25 per child or $40 for two siblings, and participants are encouraged to wear their favorite dress for Miss Clark County. Registration forms can be accessed on the Miss Missouri, Miss Northeast, and Miss Lewis & Clark Organization Facebook page.
