Clarann H. Drebes

Clarann H. Drebes, 91, of Quincy, IL, passed away at 4:40 pm Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at Lewis County Nursing Home in Canton, MO.

A Funeral Ceremony will be at 10:00 am Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Ellington Memorial Presbyterian Church in Quincy. Pastor Ron Cox will officiate. Burial will follow at Greenmount Cemetery in Quincy.

Friends and Family are invited to Clarann’s Life Celebration at a visitation that will be Friday, July 28, 2023 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the O’Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy.

Clarann was born February 1, 1932, in Kahoka, MO to Henry and Salome (Klingler) Dinger.

She was married to Lowell “Shorty” Drebes on October 11, 1952 at St. Paul Evangelical & Reformed Church in Kahoka, MO. He preceded her in death on April 17, 2016.

Survivors include her three children, Marilyn Bergman (Kerry) of Quincy, IL, Charles “Chuck” Drebes (Ellen) of Fowler, IL, and Carolyn Feldkamp (Gary) of La Grange, MO; seven grandchildren, Kyle Bergman, Kim Sparrow (Michael) of Canton, MO, Jamie Mecklenburg (Zach) of Quincy, IL, Travis Woods (Amanda) of Galena, MO, Cherlyn Evans (Grant) of Bentonville, AR, Casey Fountain (Ryan) of New London, MO, and Cary Fessenden (Tim) of Hannibal, MO; 17 great-grandchildren, Riley, Zachary, & Blake Sparrow, Avery & Lilly Niewohner, Beckett Mecklenburg, Preston & Leigha Drebes, Marissa Stout, Tyler King, Ryann & Aidan Evans, Gage, Owen, Alyssa, & Emma Fountain, Adalynn Fessenden, and another due in November; one sister, Lorene Frenzen of Iowa City, IA; two sisters-in-law, Roberta Drebes of Quincy, IL and Marilyn Drebes of Quincy, IL; and many loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Clarann was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, George Jacob Dinger; two sisters, Lenora Hunziker and Marie Kimmey; one grandson, Adam Drebes; five brothers-in-law, Glen Hunziker, Roland Kimmey, Glen Frenzen, Harvey Drebes, and Curtis Drebes; two nephews, Delbert Hunziker and Johnny Kimmey; and one niece, Becky Hunziker Crane.

Clarann graduated from Kahoka High School in 1949. She moved to Quincy at the age of 17 and began working for Bell Telephone Company. She later worked for Jaydon Handi-Rack, Ben Franklin, and Sturhahn Jewelers.

Clarann was a member of the Quinsippi Doll Club and Gabbers. Her collection included over 600 dolls, from antique dolls to Barbies, but her Shirley Temple dolls were her favorite! She also collected thimbles, pens, stamps, and coins. Clarann loved studying history, both local history and family history. She was proud of her Kahoka roots and kept scrapbooks of all her family’s happenings. A talented baker, Clarann was famous for her delicious rum cake! Clarann will be remembered for her love of family, history, and making rum cake.

Clarann was a member of Ellington Memorial Presbyterian Church. She was also a Sunday School teacher at Salem Church and a member of the Salem Women’s Evening Guild.

Pallbearers will be Michael Sparrow, Grant Evans, Ryan Fountain, Zach Mecklenburg, Tim Fessenden, and Preston Drebes.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ellington Memorial Presbyterian Church or St. Peter’s Early Childhood Learning Center in La Grange, MO.
