WAYNE LAWRENCE MARTIN
Wayne Lawrence Martin, 88, of Rural Memphis, Missouri passed away Friday, December 1, 2023 at the LaBelle Manor Nursing Home in LaBelle, Missouri.
Wayne was born on September 12, 1935, in Newton, Kansas the son of Earl and Ruth Emily Woodward Martin.
He graduated from the Lacey High School in New Sharon, Iowa and graduated in the Class of 1953. Wayne continued his education at the University of Iowa and later Auctioneering School in Mason City, Iowa.
Wayne service his country in the Army Reserves for six years.
He worked as a cattle buyer for John Morrell, received a real estate license in the early 80’s while farming, and began a career with the United States Post Office in 1993, out of the post offices in Rutledge and then Edina before retiring in 2017. He was a member of the Cattlemen’s Association and served as a 4-H Leader.
Wayne enjoyed being on the farm, day trips around the county, but most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
On February 22, 1962 at the Clark County Courthouse in Kahoka, Missouri, Wayne married Patricia Jean Parrish, and to this union a daughter was born.
Wayne is survived by a daughter, Linda Lea and Mark Mallett of Baring, Missouri; grandchildren, Curtis and Jenny Mallett of Memphis, Missouri, Brandi and Kyle White of Baring, Missouri; great grandchildren, Mason Mallett, Lanie Mallett, Levi and Carson Tague, Clay and Cole White; a brother-in-law, Eldon “Bull” Parrish of Baring, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Mary Kay Scott of Rosmond, California; a sister-in-law, Barbara Parrish of Kirksville, Missouri; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Ruth Martin; wife, Pat Martin; a brother, Albert and Dorothy Martin; three brother-in-law’s, Wayne Parrish, Jerry Parrish and James Parrish, two sister-in-law’s, Gretchen Parrish and Janet Parrish and a brother-in-law, JR Scott.
Funeral services were at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday December 5, 2023 at the Memphis Funeral Home in Memphis, Missouri.
Visitation was Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home in Memphis, Missouri.
Interment was be in the Sunny Side Cemetery at Milton, Iowa.
Pastor Mike Wilson officiated and Casket Bearers were Eric Vansickel, Caley Parrish, Justin Parrish, Ed Parrish, Russell Martin, Terry Mallett and Jay Mallett.
