The Clark County 4-H Recognition program was held October 21, at the Kahoka Christian Church. The annual event recognizes the efforts of 4-H members for their various achievements. Serving as Master of Ceremonies was Don Nicholson, Area Youth Development Specialist. Leading the opening pledges were the Antioch and Busy Beaver clubs. Learning Not To Burn: Elementary Students Take Home Fire Safety Tips

Clark County Elementary children have had some special visitors recently as local firefighters have shared with the students the dangers of fires in their homes and safety tips in prevention. They have also spoke to the students about steps they should take if a fire should occur in their homes.  October is Fire Prevention Month and reasoning behind the designation is that the Great Chicago Fire where hundreds were killed and about four square miles of Chicago destroyed and destroying about four square miles of Chicago occurred on October 8 & 9 of 1871.

CCR-1 Student Council Addresses School Board About Screening Test Concerns

Several members of the Clark County R-1 High School student council attended Thursday’s CCR-1 school board meeting to express their concerns about the recent health screening, which included a measurement of each student Body Mass Index (BMI) which helps identify students who may be overweight.  The screening was part of the school’s Wellness Policy, which was discussed and approved last spring. The results of the screenings were mailed home to parents .
